In the cyanotype process, a photochemical reaction is activated as iron salts meet light, leaving behind a deep blue tone after rinsing. In Disa Rytt’s new works, however, what remains unexposed becomes equally significant. The white surface of the paper does not appear as empty space but asserts a material presence; like the blue areas, it functions as an active component of the composition.
Rather than presenting a fixed structure, the lines and intervals move within a field of tension in which light both leaves its trace and withdraws. Through subtle shifts in transparency, a grid gradually emerges.
Within this, a visual logic unfolds in which perception oscillates between structure and dissolution, between the visible and that which is withheld by light itself.
